What is a medical spa?
Though medical spas, or med spas, can differ, in general a medical spa is a place that provides more intensive, targeted treatments than a typical day spa. A medical spa usually provides treatments that require special equipment, training, and licensing on behalf of the practitioner, such as Botox injections, dermal (facial) fillers, or more intensive facial skin treatments, such as chemical peels or microneedling. Some medical spas may also be under the supervision of someone with medical training, such as a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist, which is a physician that specializes in skin related issues. Overall, the term ‘medical’ in medical spa is meant to help refer to the fact that the environment is more similar to a clinic than it is to a commercial day spa. This is a good thing, since the treatments administered at medical spas should be done in a sterile, clean environment, as they would in any other medical setting. This is important for you to see and know as a client, as your health and safety should be the top priority. At New Look Med Spa, we offer a safe, clean, comfortable environment, and all of our treatments are administered by licensed, certified practitioners.

What treatments are offered at a med spa?
What treatments are offered will likely depend on the med spa in question. However, some typical and popular treatments offered at med spas are: Botox injections (either cosmetic or for medical reasons), dermal fillers (such as lip fillers), and facial-related treatments such as chemical peels or microneedling, meant to target acne or visible signs of aging. At New Look Med Spa, we offer an array of treatments for both men and women. In addition to the services mentioned above, we also offer IV therapy, breast lifts, Kybella (a targeted treatment to help define your jawline), as well as PRP, a treatment to help restore hair loss for men. These types of treatments may not always be offered at other med spas, but we pride ourselves on having a team of trained professionals available to administer these popular treatments.

What are the differences between a Day Spa and Med Spa?
Most people have probably visited a day spa at some point in their lives, usually for simple aesthetic treatments like pedicures, manicures or basic facials, or simply for a massage or day of relaxation. Day spas are usually designed for this purpose, and the environment and practitioners available reflect that. A medical spa is different in that it still offers aesthetic or cosmetic-driven treatments, but they are usually more intensive treatments that require far more advanced equipment, technology, and a sterile, clinic-like setting. Also, you will probably visit a med spa like ours more than once, as many of our treatments require touch-ups or follow-ups, or you may wish to do repeat treatments. A med spa will get to know you and your goals, whereas you will probably be a more casual visitor to a typical day spa.
