Where does Botox come from?
Botox is derived from botulism which is produced by a bacteria called Clostridium Botulinum. In large amounts, this toxin can be dangerous. Talk with us about your concerns, and we’ll do our best to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. In many cases, a treatment will be done in about ten minutes.
When should I expect results?
It usually takes up to four days for you to start to see the effects of Botox in the treatment area. We’ve seen treatments last up to four months. As your body works the Botox out of your system, your wrinkles will start to return as your muscles contract again. Many patients, however, do report that the wrinkles are less pronounced when they return. To maintain your aesthetic goals, treatments should be repeated every three to four months.
Do I need to change my daily activities after treatment? Is there any downtime?
Our staff’s overriding goal is for you to have a successful Botox treatment. With that in mind, we will review with the detailed aftercare instructions that we will print out and send home with you. After a session, avoid laying down or bending over for at least six hours. This precaution prevents the injection from moving around and seeping into other areas. If the Botox moves around, it could cause other muscles to be relaxed that weren’t intended to treat. The result of this could cause your aesthetic goals not to be met.
Some patients report some dry mouth after a session. To avoid this, we suggest bringing some sugar-free candy with you to use after a visit.
